Forgetting the evil

“I ask nothing of the Jews
except that they should disappear.”
– Hans Frank, Nazi governor of Poland

Last week I apologized to a Jewish friend for again forgetting the evil, the third year in a row I promised myself I would not forget. I am exactly what evil wants, what evil needs to succeed; wondering if Edmund Burke might have described me when he said, “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” By ignoring, by standing on the sidelines, by not remembering, are we not condoning evil?

Allow our military to fight the terrorists

Albert Einstein said, “I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”  He believed World War III would be nuclear annihilation returning us to the Stone Age.  Is he correct? Will there even be a World War III?  If there is a World War III, what type of conflict will it be?  By the way, what is a world war?  Merriam-Webster defines it as, “a war engaged in by all or most of the principal nations of the world”.  Is World War III on the horizon?  Could the instability of the Middle East be the fuse to ignite it?

When does dissent become treason?

The first amendment of the Bill of Rights states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”  We can openly complain about our government.  We can peacefully demonstrate against our government.  But are there any limits to dissent?  Is there a line we should not cross? Is there a point that dissent becomes un-American or even treasonous?  In the last few weeks we have seen examples of un-American behavior and potentially treasonous behavior.
